Our sport performance training systems have been developed from a combined 9 years within the Health and Fitness Industry, and over 14 years within International Sport. Backed by coaches who have a strong academic education and a wealth of applied knowledge. We tailor our strength and conditioning training programs to meet each individual ability and to ensure you maximize every training opportunity. Stephen is a Strength & Conditioning Coach who has over 4 years experience in the Health & Fitness Industry and 9 years experience in International Sport.
Stephen’s academic credentials include a BSc [Hons] Sport & Exercise Science from the University of Ulster [Ireland], and a MSc Strength & Conditioning from the University of Edinburgh [Scotland].
Stephen’s coaching approach is driven by the principle of minimizing injury risk, maximizing athlete readiness and sport performance enhancement. He adopts an individualized approach to strength and conditioning training prescription, a core principle at Athletes Xcel. In addition, Stephen has an expertise in end stage rehabilitation when returning athletes back to the arena of play. This includes training load management, especially for those who struggle with reoccurring niggling injuries.
Stephen believes that regardless of the type of athlete you are, ‘everyone should have the opportunity to optimize their sport performance’.
A sport and fitness enthusiast, Stephen’s athletic background began playing competitive soccer as a junior to early adulthood. Followed by a brief stint in amateur road cycling. Today, Stephen spends his spare time track/road cycling, weightlifting in the gym and nerding out on athletic performance training systems.
Kate McMullan [formally Kate Perry] graduated from Kent State University [USA] with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology and Sport Medicine. After 5 years of working in the field she went to the University of Edinburgh [Scotland] to complete her Master of Science in Strength and Conditioning.
With over 10 years of experience in the strength and conditioning field she has been exposed to a wide range of athletes. Including youth athletes, amateur athletes, everyday fitness warriors, and national / international athletes. Kate’s training approach is based on applying evidence-based strength and conditioning training prescription. At the core of Kate's training approach is about minimizing injury risk, developing strong movement competencies, and increasing athlete's physical capacity.
Kate herself has been a competitive athlete all her life. Some of her highlights include obtaining a full scholarship to play field hockey at Kent State University [NCAA Div. 1] and representing Canada in her Age Group at the World Triathlon Championship in Beijing  and London . Her experiences in sport have provided her with a unique perspective and understanding of what is required to be a successful athlete and to get the best out of yourself.
Outside of coaching, you will see Kate up a mountain exploring new hiking trails, on long coffee bike rides and playing field hockey at the nearest field.
