Athletes Xcel is a sports performance coaching company that provides strength and conditioning programmes, cycling programmes and sport science services to athletes, clubs, and teams.
Since location shouldn’t be a barrier to working with professional coaches, Athletes Xcel was founded to make sure that everyone with performance goals has this opportunity to unleash their potential. We work with individuals of all levels, from beginners to amateur athletes to competitors to everyday fitness warriors and those who just want to Xcel in life.
The combined experience of our coaches in the international high-performance sport and fitness sectors exceeds 20 years. They have a history of outperforming performance goals and have trained some of the best competitors in the world.
Our training programmes are delivered and communicated through online coaching software platforms TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic. Allowing individuals to have regular touch points and on-going support from our coaches. Our programmes are crafted to meet the abilities of each individual and to make sure you get the most out of every training opportunity using a unique blend of the art of coaching and scientific evidence-based coaching.
Stephen is a professional coach specialising in the sport of cycling and a strength and conditioning coach.
At the age of 16, Stephen started his coaching journey by teaching U11 soccer at his youth club. This served as the impetus for him to pursue a career coaching athletes, preparing them physically, technically, and mentally for sport. A founder of Athletes Xcel, Stephen has now been involved in international high-performance sport for twelve years. A highlight of Stephen's career was serving Cycling Canada between 2018 to 2024 holding titles as national cycling coach and strength and conditioning coach.
Stephen has trained Olympians, world medalists, national champions, master athletes, youth prospects, and weekend warriors. His coaching philosophy aims to empower individuals to become the best athletes they can be in order to help them realize their full potential so they can perform when it matters.
Stephen has degrees in MSc Strength & Conditioning from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and a BSc [Hons] Sport & Exercise Science from the University of Ulster in Ireland. He also possesses the designations of High-Performance Certification [HPC] from Sport Scientist Canada and Chartered Professional Coach [ChPC] from the Coaching Association of Canada.
Stephen’s sports background began with playing competitive soccer as a youth player into early adulthood. This was followed by a brief stint in amateur road cycling racing. Stephen now uses his free time being a dad to his son and racing track and road bikes at local events and virtually.
Kate [formerly Kate Perry] is a professional coach specialising in the sport of field hockey and a strength and conditioning coach.
Kate has always been a competitive athlete. She received a full scholarship to play field hockey at Kent State University [NCAA Division 1] and represented Canada in her age group at the World Triathlon Championships in Beijing [2011] and London [2013], among other achievements. Her experiences in sports have given her a unique perspective on what it takes to succeed as an athlete and to bring out the best in oneself.
Kate has trained professional athletes, Olympic and Paralympic athletes, world medalists, master athletes, young athletes, and everyday fitness warriors. Kate concentrates her training programmes on reducing injury risk by enhancing physical capacity and creating strong movement competencies. She believes that a combination of hard work, consistent dedication, and a positive mindset is essential for success in sports and in life.
Kate holds a BSc in Exercise Physiology & Sport Medicine from Kent State University in America and an MSc in Strength & Conditioning from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
In her spare time, Kate enjoys playing field hockey at the nearby field, exploring new hiking trails, and riding bikes drafting off her husband.
